Abstract

The article informs that World War I holds many lessons for the modern military leader, particularly in the importance of mission command. German leaders developed, practiced, and implemented a system of mission command that would prove effective, but not all used it correctly. It is noted that the U.S. Army's modern concept of mission command, as outlined in Army Doctrine Publication 6-0, "Mission Command: Command and Control of Army Forces," traces its roots to Auftragstaktik.
