Abstract

This article focuses on point of view (POV) shots in films. Recent literature in the philosophy of film not only attempts to explain the cognitive processes involved in engaging with fiction film, but also addresses the textual cues that contribute to evoking an emotional response from the viewer. Murray Smith focuses on POV shots as one of the important features that encourage the viewer to imagine the character's experience from the inside. The article focuses on Smith's claim that POV shots tend to activate central imagining.
