Abstract

The article provides a retrospective on the presidency from 2016 to 2021 and the work of the DG-Sucht. The last two years of the term were marked by the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, which led to restrictions in addiction care. However, the professional society has made efforts to develop internet-based care systems and hold virtual events. The new board was elected in September 2021. The junior group of the DG-Sucht has developed well in recent years and offers various activities and further education. Prizes were also awarded for scientific work. In addition, the 40th anniversary of the DG-Sucht was celebrated. The development and updating of treatment guidelines for substance-related and non-substance-related addiction disorders has been an important focus of the professional society in the last 5 years. Guidelines for internet-related disorders, cannabis-related disorders, and the treatment of pain have also been developed. The treatment of tobacco addiction received new regulations through the Healthcare Further Development Act (GVWG). Various addiction congresses and specialist conferences were also held. The DG-Sucht, the DGS, and the DGSPS founded the umbrella organization of addiction professional societies (DSG) in 2015. The umbrella organization has published position papers on various topics. The DG-Sucht was regularly invited to provide statements and participated in working groups. Gerhard Bühringer resigned from his position as editor-in-chief of the journal SUCHT, and Astrid Müller has taken over as the new editor-in-chief. The DG-Sucht has also been involved in the concerns of children and adolescents and has established synergies with the Joint Addiction Commission of child and adolescent psychiatric professional societies and associations. The article describes various developments and initiatives in the field of addiction treatment for children and adolescents. It is mentioned that a working group has been established to work on the S3 guideline for cannabis addiction and that representatives of child and adolescent psychiatry and psychotherapy should be involved in the guideline projects for psychosis and addiction as well as opioid addiction. It also refers to publications of position and evidence papers that were created by the addiction commission on behalf of the child and adolescent psychiatric societies. Furthermore, the implementation of further training events for child and adolescent psychiatrists is mentioned, and the problems in the care and rehabilitation of addicted children and adolescents are highlighted. It also refers to a research initiative to improve mental health and reduce the risk of addiction in children and adolescents through mindfulness. Finally, the challenges related to the COVID-19 pandemic and the planned events and activities of the DG-Sucht are mentioned. [Extracted from the article]
