Abstract

Defining fatigue is difficult even though it is one of the most frequent symptoms of consultation in adults. In pain clinics, it has even become one of the primary reasons for consultation. From "normal" to "pathological" fatigue, from the symptoms of numerous medical and/or psychopathological entities to chronic fatigue syndrome, how can we think about fatigue in the pain clinic? Talking about fatigue also means talking about the "fatigue" complaints, especially since, over the years, fatigue has become a common marker for the somatic, the psychic, and the social. Thus, fatigue speaks to us of resistance and desire in the face of an environment that is difficult to understand, where everything is accelerating at a time when we are struggling to find representations to think and live in today's world. Just as in the pain clinic, it is no doubt advisable to stop trying to separate real fatigue from false fatigue, what belongs to the body itself from what belongs to the imaginary body, in order to apprehend the realities of the subject and to allow efficient clinical care.
