Abstract

A Ti 3 Zr 1.5 NbVAl 0.25 refractory high entropy alloy (RHEA) was prepared by vacuum melting and subsequently subjected to hot forging and annealing at elevated temperatures. The as-prepared alloy has a single body-centered cubic (BCC) phase structure with a balanced matching of strength and toughness. It is shown that tensile yield strength and fracture elongation of this alloy are 899 MPa and 24.50%, respectively. In addition, the Charpy V-notch impact toughness of the Ti 3 Zr 1.5 NbVAl 0.25 alloy was measured to be 119. 5 J/cm2, which is better than most traditional alloys and HEAs. The superior quasi-static and dynamic mechanical properties synergy makes this RHEA attractive for advanced structural applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
