Abstract

A compact circularly polarized (CP) square slot antenna fed by a microstrip line is proposed. This design comprises a square slot on the top of the substrate and a stubbed microstrip line on the back of the substrate. The results indicate the 45.61% impedance bandwidth (2.86 to 4.55 GHz) and 32.74% axial ratio bandwidth (3.27 to 4.55 GHz) with 3.94dBi peak gain over the entire CP band. Furthermore, an attempt has been made to obtain the unidirectional radiation patterns with almost twice peak gain by employing a metallic reflector at a distance of quarter wavelength beneath the ground plane of proposed antenna.
