In the context of a society which is no longer accustomed to consider sorrow and has repressed the occurrence of death, the author proposes to read the pandemic in light of an anthropology of fragility. Crucially, the paper highlights the fact that such a vulnerability can be understood as a condition not to be overcome in view of a return to the pre-pandemic state of affairs, but rather as a possibility to foster a new kind of society which discards omnipotence and practices proximity.
