- Reports that New York City's Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg announced that efforts to curb school violence in the city's most dangerous schools had been so successful that 5 of 16 schools would be removed from the list. How a 43 percent reduction in major crime and a 33 percent fall in overall crime over the past year.
