Abstract

This study concerns with the numerical simulation of a conical porous hybrid journal bearing (CPHJB S) considering the synergistic effect of three-dimensional (3D) surface irregularities and magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) lubricant. The study analyzes the interactive effects of permeability parameter, MHD lubricant behaviour, semi cone angle and 3D surface irregularities on the performance of CPHJB S. FEM is used to solve the governing Reynolds equation for an irregular surfaced CPHJB S configuration lubricated with MHD lubricant. The findings of the study shows that the CPHJB S operating with MHD lubricant provide enhanced values of fluid film thickness and damping coefficients. • Conical porous hybrid journal bearing with synergistic effect of 3D surface irregularities and MHD lubricant is computed. • Finite element analysis of conical porous hybrid journal bearing is performed. • The interactive effect of permeability parameter and semi cone angle has been studied. • The static and dynamic characteristics for different values of radial load W ̅ r and Hartmann number H m .
