Abstract

This article aims to discuss the reception of The Complete Stories, by Clarice Lispector by the North-American audience, from the perspective of North American press. The Complete Stories was organized by Benjamin Moser, translated by Katrina Dodson and published by New Directions Publisher in 2015. The Complete Stories is part of a translation project, coordinated by Moser, who aims to substitute the "domestication" practices of previous publications for intentional "foreignization" practices moved by the necessity to show "the real" Clarice for her readers abroad (MOSER, 2011). This study aims to identify if: (i) This change, especially in The Complete Stories, reverberates in the reception of this literary work from the perspective of the press? (ii) Are Clarice and The Complete Stories exotized/domesticated for the press? The analysis result of the epitextual corpus sample, among others, shows that from The Complete Stories publishing on, the Brazilian writer reaches one another platform of recognition and dissemination in the American cultural system consolidating herself in the worldwide literary canon.
