Abstract
- Evaporation of water from foliage drives the sappy suction, says climatologist Gregory Quetin of the University of California, Santa Barbara. Over the course of a year, the world's plants harness about 0.03 watts per square meter of sap-pumping power on average, the team reports August 17 in the Journal of Geophysical Research: Biogeosciences. When it comes to hoisting sap, plants are real power lifters. [Extracted from the article]
