Abstract
- The importance of the concept of courtesy has been discussed in different disciplines throughout the ages in order to prevent conflicts in the living spaces of societies and to offer a more civilized life. Courtesy of "civility" and kind "politeness" is changing conceptually intended use of the words. Within the scope of this study, the meaning differences and similar concepts of courtesy "civility" and polite "politeness" are emphasized and their emergence processes are summarized. It has been tried to discover that this diversity of meanings has differences according to the formation of societies, beliefs and lifestyles. With these definitions, the relations of concepts with fields such as philosophy, religion, and social environment were revealed. While interpretations of the aforementioned word meanings are included according to various dictionaries and religious books, in addition to explaining the semantic differences of words in the study, the concept of courtesy also includes importance in the regulation of organizational behavior in organizations apart from social life. Within the scope of the study, the use of courtesy in terms of manager and employee behaviors in organizations has been tried to be explained. At this point, the aim of the research is to examine the role of the concept of courtesy in the organizational environment from the eyes of employees and managers. Within the scope of this study, which has an exploratory nature, which was designed using qualitative method for the purpose, data were collected from four people selected from each sector by using the judgmental sampling technique from food and beverage businesses, transportation, academia and health professionals. Interview and written questioning techniques were used as data collection techniques. As a result of the research, the concept of courtesy creates healthy communication and a systematic quality living space on both social and organizational structures. It has been concluded that the presence of courtesy in the manager-employee relationship is a reinforcing factor in terms of work commitment and motivation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
