Abstract
- The article investigates mediatization and the relationship between the local and the large in contemporary world in the plays "Our Town" by Thornton Wilder in 1938 and Caryl Churchill's 2016 "Escaped Alone." Topics include the reason for the difficulty in distinguishing the local and the large in "Escaped Alone," the role of the revolution in technology in the 20th and 21st centuries in the conflation of the local and the large, and the effects of mediatization as reflected in both plays.
