Abstract
- Objective: To explore the relationship between attachment and negative affect, and the moderator role of mindfulness. Methods: A total of 514 adults (older than 18 years old) were selected. They were assessed with the Depression-Anxiety-Stress Scale (DASS-21), Experiences in Close Relationships Inventory (ECR), and Mindful Attention Awareness Scale (MAAS). General model analysis, regression analysis and simple slope analysis were employed to analyze the moderating effect of mindfulness. Results: The DASS-21 scores were positively correlated with the scores of attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance (r = 0.52, 0.32, Ps <0.01). The scores of DASS-21, attachment anxiety and attachment avoidance were negatively correlated with the MAAS scores (r = -0.51, -0.49, -0.32, Ps <0.01). Moderating effect analysis showed that the scores of attachment anxiety, MASS, and their interaction were associated with the DASS-21 scores in the relationship between attachment anxiety and negative affect (β=0.35,-0.32,-0.11). The scores of attachment avoidance, MASS, and their interaction were associated with the score of DASS-21 in the relationship between attachment avoidance and negative affect (β=0.18,-0.43,-0.08). Conclusion: It suggests that negative affect has a close relationship with attachment in adults, and mindfulness may have moderating effect on the relationship between attachment and negative affect.
