Abstract

Vaccinia virus DNA and viral particle shedding have been demonstrated in the milk of infected cow, and this virus has been shown to be infectious. Orthopoxviruses include 4 viruses of importance for human health: the variola virus responsible for smallpox, the vaccinia virus, the cowpox virus, and the MPXV.
