Análise gravimétrica dos resíduos sólidos urbanos do município de Dourados, MS.

The correct management of solid waste has been one of the main contemporary problems of basic sanitation in Brazilian cities. Knowledge of the composition of waste is essential to guide actions related to their environmentally adequate management. This work aimed to determine the gravimetric composition of solid waste generated by the urban population of Dourados, MS. The gravimetric analysis was performed at the municipal landfill on September 7th and 8th, 2021. Based on these data, the gravimetric composition of household solid waste obtained was 53.1% of organic matter, 16.9% of plastic, 8.8% of paper/cardboard, 3.5% of metal, 2.9% of glass, 8.2% of reject, and 6.5% of others. The high percentage of recyclables and organic matter, if they have an adequate alternative destination, will lead to a drastic reduction in the volume demand in the landfill, thus increasing its useful life and reducing the generation of effluents.
