Abstract

In practice, due to bearing load there is a generation of pressure in the lubricant film, which leads elastic deformation on the bounding surfaces and causes variation in the film thickness. As film thickness plays an important role in performance of the slider‐bearing designs; an attempt has been made to study numerical simulation of elastic deformation effect in one‐dimensional inclined slider‐bearing with ferrofluid (FF) lubricant. The modified Reynolds equation is derived using ferrohydrodynamic theory by Shliomis with transverse uniformly strong magnetic field, and continuity equation. Using this equation dimensionless load‐carrying capacity (W¯$\bar{W}$) is studied for different parameters. The results show the better performance of W¯$\bar{W}$ for lower convergence ratio and higher effective viscosity. However, elastic deformation has no effect on W¯$\bar{W}$. Some comparisons are also made with the previous literature. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
