Abstract

The image of the horizon, recurring frequently and rich with meaning in Gabrielle Roy’s work, is especially significant in the short story “Où iras-tu Sam Lee Wong?” published in the collection Un Jardin au bout du monde in 1975. This story, which has not received much critical attention up to now, benefits from being interpreted from the perspective of the image of the horizon. The purpose of this essay is to contribute to the understanding of Roy’s text by using C. G. Jung’s theory of archetypes, discovering in the horizon a metaphor for the process of individuation and the passage from the ego to the whole self. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
