Abstract

The floristic composition of street trees of the Margarida Galvan district in the town of Dois Vizinhos PR Brazil, is characterized, with special reference to the management influence of cuttings. Tree inventory was undertaken by a census of 11 house blocks forming the district, evaluating biological parameters, cutting types (drastic; aerial electricity wires; lowering; raising; cleaning) through descriptive statistics and relative frequency for the interpretation of results. There were 25 tree species, distributed into 17 families and 24 genera, out of which 40.7% were exotic and 59.3% were native. Cutting types affects the development and strength of urban trees. Inventory revealed drastic cutting in 193 trees, resulting in the emission of numberless epicormic branches with subsequent imbalance. Further, 10.6% of the district's trees were potentially invading and their gradual eradication was recommended with their substitution by native species, following legislation in the state of Paraná and re-planning of the techniques and execution with the municipality, energy-producing company and outsourced firms according to ABNT norms for tree cutting (NBR 16.246-1/2013). Activities on environmental education should be endeavored on improvements of trees, responsibilities with regard to management and legal sanctions applied when cuttings are done erroneously.
