Abstract

The research work was carried out during the dry season of 2018, in the Canton Bolivar Province of Manabí. Its objective was to determine the effect of four irrigation sheets on the behavior of the wet bulb and the root development in the tomato crop in the different phenological stages: initial (20 days), development (35 days), medium (35 days), and final (20 days). A Completely Random Design (DCA) was used, with four treatments and six repetitions. The crop was subjected to drip irrigation, with a sowing distance of 1.3 m between rows and 0.60 m between plants, resulting in approximately 12,820 plants / ha. The climatic data taken from the ESPAM Agrometeorological Station and the physical-chemical analysis of the water and soil carried out at the INIAP” Pichilingue,”. From these, the consumption of applied water (313.50 mm) was determined with a time of 6268.33 minutes, as well as the surface horizontal development of the wet bulb (19.82 cm); underground horizontal average (43.59 cm); depth (49.49 cm). In addition, the depth of the taproot (43.46 cm) was recorded; depth of adventitious roots (23.65 cm) and horizontal root length (37.43 cm). The results allow inferring that the root system of the tomato crop is closely correlated with the wet bulb due to the effect of the applied irrigation sheets and with greater prevalence in the initial, development and intermediate phenologicalstage.
