Abstract

The study aimed to find out the effect of a proposed unit in medical geography on the development of health awareness among female secondary school students, Credit System (Compulsory Program) in Jeddah. A quasi-experimental approach with a one group pre-post design was used, together with a preparation of a proposed educational unit: a reference, a student’s guide, and a 24-item health awareness scale. The scale was pre-applied to a sample of (39) students, then the independent variable (educational unit) was introduced, and it was post-applied. The results showed statistically significant differences at the level of α ≤ 0.05 between the mean scores of the first-year female secondary school students - Credit System (Compulsory Program) in the Health Awareness Scale in favor of post-measurement. To measure the effect of the proposed educational unit, the Eta-squared η² was calculated, which amounted to 0.96, indicating the effect of the application of the proposed educational unit in medical geography on the development of health awareness among first-year female secondary school students - Credit System (Compulsory Program) Recommendations: Benefiting from the topics of the proposed unit "Medical Geography" when developing social studies curricula and organizing meetings, seminars and training courses to educate students about the importance of adhering to behaviors related to maintaining public health public health.
