Abstract

In this study, which deals with the ancient city of Alabanda in Aydın's Çine district, the importance of the unknown city in ancient times and its current situation are studied. As Strabo has stated, Alabanda, one of the three most important cities of Inner Caria, is a settlement located in the Araphisar District of Doğanyurt Village, established on the slopes of the hills to the north of Gökbel Mountain today. The city, of which we can find the oldest information about it in Hittite sources, contains important ruins that prove that it has been inhabited continuously since the Classical Period. The elements that constitute the ancient city, the history of the city's excavation, the protection measures designed within the scope of the Paysage and Landscaping Project, the excursion route, the excavation house, the reception center were presented and evaluated in terms of tourism potential. Protecting and exhibiting the uncovered areas is as important as touring an ancient city. The correct transfer of the data in the architectural structures and the exhibited finds, and the correct order of sightseeing and observation, ensures that the individual who travels the city has a correct place in the his memory. With the paysage project carried out in the city, which has very well preserved structures that have survived until today, new suggestions have been made to ensure the sustainability of the ancient city within the balance of protection and use.
