Effects of the new draft of EN 1996‐3 on the design of AAC masonry Within the scope of the development of a new generation of Eurocodes also the European masonry standards are subjected to an evolution. Thereby new drafts for all four parts of EN 1996 are elaborated and the final versions are available meanwhile. For the design of masonry walls in Germany especially the simplified calculation methods for unreinforced masonry structures are relevant. Comparing calculations with the actual valid standards in Germany (DIN EN 1996‐3 in connection with DIN EN 1996‐3/NA) and the available draft of the European standard (prEN 1996‐3:2021) showed a significant difference in the maximum capacities of masonry walls with a compressive strength of fk ≤ 2.0 N/mm2 and for constructions with partly supported floors. The differences in the regulations and the resulting deviations in the design outcomes are demonstrated and explained in this contribution. The content focus of the document is on AAC masonry.
