TUTTI NEL MONDO SIAMO CARICATURISTI: Riflessioni di Luigi Bertelli nell'Archivio storico comunale di Varese.

The First International Caricature Exhibition (as the name said) took place in Varese in the 1903, was organized and sponsored by the city commitee which exhibited private collections, newspapers and original works of the masters of the past (Leonardo, Bernini) and contemporaries (Cappiello, Gandolin, Teja and Vamba). The exhibition was flanked by a modern advertising promotion and a cultural programme of side events and lectures. The most important event was the conference of 25 October held by Luigi Bertelli at the local Social Theatre. The article thanks to the local press rebuilds the cultural context of the event, examines the original paper of Vamba's conference, preserved at the municipal historical archive of Varese and tells about the leading figures' sensations through their direct witnesses which have come down to us.
