Abstract
- This paper presents a vector control method for variable speed low-power horizontal axis wind turbine (HAWT) based permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG). The proposed method has high efficiency, fast dynamic performance, and accurate control during different operating conditions. The space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) has have used to generate a reference voltage vector that provides a switching sequence for the three-phase inverter. The simulation of the HAWT aerodynamic model, PMSG model, and the control algorithm uses MATLAB-SIMULINK software. The proposed control method feasibility and effectiveness have been verified by a testbed that consists of 220W HAWT model NE-200S with a 1.3m blade rotor diameter. The wind turbine operates at cut-in speed 2.5m/s, rated speed 11.5m/s, and the cut-out speed 50m/s. A low-speed wind tunnel for providing wind profile during experimentation has been designed and realized. The 8m/s as a maximum wind speed during the investigation was selected. The obtained simulation and the experimental results at various wind speeds showed that the proposed control vector control method with SVPWM has an excellent dynamic performance.
