Abstract

The article provides information about vertigo and dizziness, two common symptoms that can be caused by various diseases. The most important and urgent causes in primary care are mentioned, such as benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, vestibular neuritis, Ménière's disease, cardiovascular diseases, neurological diseases, psychogenic causes, and cases without a clear diagnosis. The importance of conducting a proper medical history and physical examination to correctly classify dizziness is emphasized. Clinical findings that may indicate a serious cause, such as the presence of vertigo in individuals over 69 years old or with neurological deficits, are also mentioned. The HINTS score is mentioned as a tool to identify central causes of vertigo. The article provides information on the diagnosis of acute vertigo and the detection of a possible stroke. Recommendations for the management of vertigo, such as conducting a detailed medical history, performing a systematic physical examination, and using the algorithm published by Muncie et al., are mentioned. Related bibliography is also provided. [Extracted from the article]
