Harris's List of Covent-Garden Ladies (1760–1794): New Copies and New Evidence regarding its History.

However the 1761 edition references the previous year as "the first part of I Harris's List i " (p. v) and reviews of the 1760 edition, in periodicals such as the I Monthly Magazine i (April 1760), p. 224 and I Monthly Review i (June 1760), p. 523, describe it as a new publication. We have identified more than thirty entries from the 1787 edition that draw the bulk of their descriptive prose from accounts of ostensibly different women in the 1783 edition of I Harris's List i , and over thirty-five entries in the 1788 edition that also recycle entries in the 1783 edition. They also demonstrate the specific ways in which subsequent editions of I Harris's List i built on those previously published: how monthly supplements comple- mented annual editions, and how ostensibly new annual editions of I Harris's List i continued to reissue and rearrange previously published material.
