Abstract

• Monitoring of ultimate residual strength loss and fracture energy loss of corroded wires of 19*7 wire rope. • Validation of the convenient tool among the unified theory or Erismann's law to study the damage evolution in corroded wires. • Identify the three stages. • Compare the evolution of damage and reliability. This paper aims to study the corrosion damage of wires extracted from a non-rotating wire rope. The study begins with preparing the specimens using immersion in sulphuric acid; then, these specimens undergo a static traction test. The adaptation of the three fatigue laws enables us to find relations capable of calculating the damage through static tests. The intersection between the reliability curve and the damage allows us to determine the service life and find the appropriate moment to perform predictive maintenance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
