Abstract

Enzyme immobilization on supports enables one to extend stability by protection of the active center from deactivation, enabling reuse and curtailing operating costs. Recently, metal organic frameworks (MOFs) have become an ideal support material for enzymatic immobilization due to their excellent properties. Carbonic anhydrase (CA) can be used to effectively enhance the hydration reaction of CO 2 and catalyze CO 2 into bicarbonate. The rational combination of CA with MOF will be more beneficial to expand the applications of CA in the future. This review aims to cover the research progress for the application of CA immobilization using MOF supports and the immobilization strategy, as well as its different uses, which represent great potential for commercial applications of immobilized CA. [Display omitted] • Applications of CA in free and immobilized forms are comprehensively reviewed. • The enzymatic characteristics of immobilized CA on different MOFs are described. • The immobilization methods, including their advantages and disadvantages, are elucidated. • The characteristics of MOFs suitable for CA immobilization are summarized.
