Abstract

The host plays an essential role in parasite transmission. The viability of the host–parasite relationship depends upon development of immune resistance and the induction of disease tolerance. Here I propose that pathogen coevolution of avirulence factors promoting host disease tolerance is an essential feature of the parasitic lifestyle. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
