Abstract
- Chess is used on many occasions as an educational resource because it includes different parts of cognitive function. The objective of this work has been to analyze the influence of educational chess (AJEDUCA program) on metacognitive processes in schoolchildren between the ages of 10 and 14. The study sample consisted of 301 students (M=11.7, SD=1.3) with 49% girls and 51% boys, with an experimental group (N=157) and a control group (N=144). Through processes and variables, the reading and writing metacomprehension of all the subjects in the sample was measured with two validated instruments: ESCOLA and EVAPROMES, respectively. The results show that the students who were instructed in chess obtained improvements in the metacognitive processes of supervision and evaluation in reading and writing combined with the person and task variables.
