Abstract

This article analyzes environmental policies in Uruguay over the past 30 years, highlighting the creation of an explicit environmental policy in 1990 and the subsequent creation of the Ministry of Environment in 2020. It focuses on the relationship between public policies, the environment, and production from the perspective of sustainable intensification. It also mentions environmental policies in Uruguay, such as Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and area-based conservation. The article also addresses the need to regulate water resource management in Uruguay, especially in relation to irrigation, and highlights the importance of integrated natural resource management. Additionally, it identifies the need to implement rural development and nature conservation policies in the Eastern region of Uruguay due to anthropogenic pressure and ecological degradation in the area.
