Abstract

Chylous ascites (CA), albeit rare, should be considered early as a differential diagnosis in fetal and neonatal ascites. Chylous ascites (CA) arises due to leakage of lipid-rich lymph into the peritoneal cavity and is characterised by milky, triglyceride (TG)-rich peritoneal fluid. Diagnostic abdominal paracentesis with peritoneal fluid analysis is the mainstay of diagnosing CA in neonatal ascites. [Extracted from the article]
