Abstract

Cold production-viscosity reduction technology is one of the dominant recovery ways for heavy oil with low viscosity. In this work, an amphipathic bentonite HMBent was synthesized by hydrophobic modification from the esterification reaction of silicon hydroxyl and polyethylene-graft-maleic anhydride. The inherent electric double layer structure, high thermostability and distinguished reinforcing performance of HMBent endowed the O/W emulsion with largely strengthened salt tolerance, thermal tolerance and shear resistance. Simultaneously, surfactivity-enhanced HMBent made the flooding fluid be of emulsifying ability and mechanical robustness, thus improving viscosity-reducing and displacing efficiency, also with the viscosity reduction ratio and oil recovery up to 97.35% and 73.6% respectively.
