Abstract

Interactions between soil and water are essential to investigate water presence in the soil system. Therefore, we have designed a method to examine the electrical properties of soil during water flow and without water flow. We have made a soil sample holder using PVC for laboratory measurement. There are two techniques in preliminary research to measure the electrical properties of soil. The first is measuring the soil impedance system, and the second is a method to monitor the influence of electrical signals caused by water flow. The soil impedance was measured using an LCR meter, and results show that soil impedance decreased toward water flow. Furthermore, the electrical signal was monitored by setup experimentation that consisted of an oscilloscope, a signal generator, and a differential amplifier. We found a novel phenomenon that soil impedance has fluctuated with water flow at the low frequency that started at 35 Hz, and the potential waveform has changed. The system considered developing a sophisticated instrument for groundwater surveys. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
