Abstract

The life and work of Luis Daniel Beauperthuy (1807-1871), is developed, born on the island of Martinique, graduated as a doctor in Paris (France) and rooted in Cumaná (Venezuela), where he cultivated a family. He had a leading role in Cumana's earthquake of 1853 and later in the yellow fever and cholera epidemics. He was the world forerunner of the postulate that yellow fever and malaria were transmitted by mosquitoes. In his last days he shone in the studies for the treatment of leprosy, which would take him to Guyana where his days would end. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
