Abstract

A new decamolybdate (NH4)4 (CN3 H6)4 [ Mo10 (O2) 12°22 J* 6H2O was synthesized by aqueous solution method, and characterized by IR spectroscopy, TG, single crystal X-ray diffraction and elemental analysis・ The anions [ Mo10 (O2) 12O22 ]8 exhibit a centrosymmetric structure and the symmetric unit [MO5O11 (O2) 64, [NH4] + and [ CN3H6] + cations are free around the polyanions ・ TG analysis showed that the anion has good thermal stability・ Electrospray mass spectrometry indicated that the compound was unstable in the liquid phase, the fragment ion [Mo4O13]2 (BPI = 100%) with the largest abundance was the most stable and likely the main active species in catalyzing oxidation reactions・ The oxidation reaction of phenyl methyl sulfide was studied using the compound as the catalyst, and the results showed that it was selectively oxidized to methyl phenyl sulfone, the optimal reaction conditions were found as follows: catalyst 180 mg, hydrogen peroxide 5 mL, reaction time 5 h, the yield of methyl phenyl sulfone reached 84. 28%, which indicated the compound has efficient catalytic activity and selectivity for the oxidation of phenyl methyl sulfide.
