OZNAČIVANJE AUTORSKOPRAVNOG STATUSA DIGITALNE GRAĐE: IZJAVE O PRAVIMA I NJIHOVA PRIMJENA U NACIONALNOJ I SVEUČILIŠNOJ KNJIŽNICI U ZAGREBU.

Purpose. The aim of the paper is to present the Rights Statements and the possibilities that these Statements off er for labelling the copyright status of materials available in the digital collections of cultural heritage institutions, and to describe the implementation of the Rights Statements in the Digital Collections of the National and University Library in Zagreb (NUL). Approach/methodology. In the first part of the paper, the importance of copyright in regards to the management of digital collections of the cultural heritage institutions is presented by reviewing the literature, and the problem associated with labelling the copyright status in digital collections is defined. The second part of the paper describes the Rights Statements and analyses their relationship with Creative Commons licenses. In the third part of the paper, the implementation of the Rights Statements in the Digital Collections of NUL is presented and examples of the use of the Rights Statements are given. Findings. Labelling the copyright status of digital objects in the digital collections of cultural heritage institutions is of key importance for their legal further use. The application of standardised Rights Statements makes it easier for heritage institutions to label the copyright status and offers users comprehensible information about the possibilities of their use. Social implications. Labelling the copyright status of digital objects available within the digital collections of heritage institutions is extremely important for conveying information to the widest group of users about the possibilities of re-use of the available objects. Originality/value. Prior to this paper, there has not been research in Croatian literature on the topic of Rights Statements and their implementation in a Croatian heritage institution.
