Abstract

The author details how author bell hooks' work has shaped her Black literature courses and informed her approach to teaching important figures in Black feminist literature, theory, and cultural criticism. Topics discussed include hooks' description of Black women's healing in her book "Sisters of the Yam: Black Women and Self-Recovery," overview on singer Erykah Badu's first single "Bag Lady," and reading hooks and playwright Ntozake Shange in an African American literature and theory course.
