Abstract

With Adriana Petryna book: Exposed Life: Biological Citizens after Chernobyl, biopolitical studies took a different course, accepting a new manifestation in the exercise of biopower: biocitizenship or biological citizenship. Based on the analysis carried out by the author of the tragedy that occurred in Chernobyl, a series of citizen demands arose that called into question the role of the State, the market, the institutions and the political practices of social control. In this new theoretical horizon, the category of biocitizenship is analyzed, without losing sight of its origins in biopolitical studies, bringing this idea closer to theoretical conceptualizations typical of Latin American critical thought. For this reason, this papers is oriented towards the consolidation of anti-hegemonic and anti-systemic identities that guide citizen praxis towards intercultural citizenship. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
