The first article discusses the cost-effectiveness of inventory pooling, comparing physical pooling (moving boxes) to information pooling (moving bits and bytes). The authors found that information pooling is less costly as long as transshipment costs are no more than five times physical pooling costs. It also mentions a study on how a retailer can optimize all three critical pricing, assortment, and inventory decisions concurrently using the commonly observed nested logit choice of customers.
