Abstract
- Clinical practice guidelines recommended the routine use of ultrasound to guide the insertion of IJV and FV over the SCV ([6]), further accelerating deadoption of both ultrasound-guided and landmark-based SCV catheterization. We cannot deny that SCV cannulation, when compared with the IJV or FV cannulation, carries a higher risk of pneumothorax ([2]). Practitioners have not forgotten that SCV catheters carry important patient-centered benefits ([4]); the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention continues to endorse the use of SCV central lines to reduce catheter-related bloodstream infections ([9]).
