Abstract

We also found that patients treated by primary care and advanced practice were more likely to be Black and Hispanic and have injection drug use diagnoses, suggesting greater treatment uptake by non-specialists to these most vulnerable populations. Patients treated by gastroenterologists were significantly less likely to be Black or Hispanic than those treated by primary care physicians, and less likely to have an injection drug use diagnosis. Our findings demonstrate substantial state variation in the specialties providing HCV treatment, implying that policy or healthcare supply may play important roles for the HCV treatment landscape.
