Abstract

This article reports a clinical case of a patient who lives in a condition of socioeconomic vulnerability and whose oral health was aggravated by this factor. The patient, a 27-year-old man, sought a primary health care unit in Fortaleza, Ceará, for dental treatment. After anamnesis and clinical examination, problems such as dental plaque, coronal destruction, pulp necrosis, and caries lesions were identified. The treatment consisted of plaque removal, extraction of damaged roots and dental elements, and referral to a specialized dental center. The treatment had positive effects in reducing the patient's discomfort and pain. It is concluded that primary oral health care can reduce individual and collective health problems, as well as promote strategies for better assistance to the local population.
