Abstract

The "Animita" is one of the most deeply rooted beliefs within popular culture, which is strongly present in Latin American religious practices, surviving and adapting to urban developments in the globalized world. The article that follows asks about the existence of a political dimension and social resistance present in this manifestation of popular religiosity. To elucidate this question, we will analyze the animita of deaths in the context of social and political movements, based on the mimetic theory of the philosopher and literary critic Rene Girard. With the aim of finding some connection between the idea of violent death and the cult of animitas, with the ritual of the scapegoat of Girardian theory. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
