Abstract

[Display omitted] • Raw lignin was modified through a green and scalable reactive extrusion design. • Lignin/poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) biomaterials were melt processed up to 90 wt% bio-content. • Tough biomaterials were film blown and shopping bags were produced. • Mechanical recycling and composting were verified as end-of-life options. • Reactive design was industrially scaled-up in conventional twin screw extruder.
