Abstract

A failure occurred at the component of motor baseplate, due to failure of the tension bolt on the rubber tyred gantry crane driving system after two years operation in the Tanjung Priok sea port of Indonesia. This research aimed to get the solution of the failure by improving design on the motor baseplate to fulfill optimum design and safety criteria. Initial investigation were carried out to get data of power drive motor, speed of the rubber tyred, transmission system, material of the components, etc. then started design improvement calculation. Geometry of 2D was drawn through Autocad while 3D and stress, displacement and safety factor analysis simulation through the Inventor software. From the simulation results showed that the design improvement of the component of baseplate was optimum and fulfill safety criteria. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
