Abstract
- Carroll notes that Suzuki draws on both non-diegetic and diegetic music to, "repeatedly trick the audience about the film music's source" (p. 132). As a member of the Nikkatsu factory, Suzuki made both A and B films and was employed as a director of program pictures, 'that were neither designed to be particularly prestigious for the studio nor assumed to be major box office draws' (p. 69). Based on a confluence of events at the tail end of the 1990s and into the mid-2000s, lesser-known Japanese director Seijun Suzuki became voguish for Westerners. [Extracted from the article]
