Abstract

Diehl examines in detail how Nagasaki's post-bomb identity developed at the intersection of multiple forces, interests, and desires, many of which relate to the city's Catholic history. Diehl describes how, through Nagai, the religious interpretation of the atomic bombing came to dominate post-bomb Nagasaki literature.
