Abstract

The correct and effective design of the spaces where radiotherapy applications are made with the linear accelerator device in the context of radiation shielding is extremely important to be protected from the harms of radiation to human health. In this study, it is aimed to examine the architectural design elements for radiation shielding of the spaces in the context of "spatial design, building materials and details". In the scope of the research, it has been seen that these factors should be considered and evaluated in an integrated manner for the design of the relevant spaces. It has been concluded that the options combining the high shielding potential with the structural systems which can be solved economically should be preferred in the design process. In this context, in the architectural design process of the spaces where the LINAC device producing high-energy radiation is located; It has been shown that it is possible to produce designs within the framework of optimal and shielding integrity with measures for radiation protection.
